Having a way to receive passes while training for hockey can be a game changer and not only will it make practice more enjoyable but will allow you to practice in ways you normally could not.

In this article I am going to compare two passing training aids for all those hockey lovers out their and give you my opinion on which one will work best for your training style. We will start with the basics of what they do and how they function and then move into some pros and cons. Finally I will give you my opinion on the better passer.

Understanding the Equipment

We'll start with the automatic hockey ball passer machine. It has a compact design and feeds you street hockey balls to work on receiving passes, quick release shots, and one timers. It is a great product for younger kids who are learning more basic hockey skills and want a fun way to practice.

Franklin Sports NHL Automatic Hockey Ball Passer Machine

Moving on to the pass rebounder. This invention will be better suited for a little bit older kids who are looking for a more sturdy option. This passing hockey trainer is more suited for pucks and works best on synthetic ice or real ice as opposed to the street.

Key Differences

There is a couple key differences I would like to highlight before you go and make a decision on the better of the two. First off is the price, which is in a similar range for both so no big difference there. Next is how you are going to use them for training. The automatic ball passer is going to be mainly for concrete with balls whereas the pass rebounder is for ice whether synthetic or real used mostly with pucks.

Who Should Choose Which?

For my recommendation it will depend on age and skill level. My recommendation for youth hockey players who are newer to the game and still developing those important skills, it would be the automatic ball passer. This is because is may be more fun and engaging for them and it will be a fun challenge to work on building up some shot power.

For those older and possibly more serious hockey players I am going to suggest the Rapid Rebounder because unlike the automatic passer it works on giving and receiving passes which is a crucial skill. Also it works with pucks and requires more physical power. It is going to work great in drills and using it to practice setting yourself up for one timers.

Picking What's Right For You

Obviously the most important thing is to pick which training aid is going to be right for you but be sure to check them both out before making a decision. These tools both have the possibility to help you improve but ultimately you can determine which you think has the best chance to help you succeed.
